Are you a webmaster? If so, your website should generate income for you. Whether you sell a product, a service, or generate income through the use of affiliate links, internet marketing is important to your success. A successful internet marketing campaign will generate website traffic, as well as income.

In terms of internet marketing, there are many ways to market your website. In fact, you may be overwhelmed with your options. To get started, you may start with the most recommended approaches. These include submitting articles to article directories with bank links attached, purchasing advertisements on popular websites, exchanging banners with other webmasters, and learning search engine optimization. Yes, these steps are important, but there are benefits to thinking outside-of-the-box. When you do, you will find Twitter.

Twitter is a social networking micro-blog. At first glance, Twitter looks like it can be fun, but also distracting. Yes, it can be, but it all depends on how you use the service. If you aren’t already a member, register for a free account. Choose a username, password, and provide your email address. The next step involves developing a list of contacts. These are individuals whose updates and Tweets you will receive and follow. Look for others to do the same for you.

To make contact with other Twitter members, you can search based on email address, name and location. If you belong to online community, ask for Twitter exchanges. This is ideal if members are your targeted market. For example, does your website share work-at-home opportunities? If so, post Twitter link exchanges on work-at-home related message boards. These individuals will benefit from clicking your links and visiting your website. The more contacts you make on Twitter, the easier it is to market your site.

Once you have developed a following on Twitter, you can start marketing your website. This is also where you can make costly mistakes. Twitter, as previously stated, is a social networking website. For that reason, avoid spammy advertisements. Instead, be clever and social about it. A great introductory post is “Thanks for following me on Twitter. I just finished updating my website, tell me what you think.” First, this offers a personal introduction. Next, it accomplishes the goal of increasing page views.

When you receive followers on Twitter, you are encouraged to return the favor. This is not required, but it can work to your advantage. You will receive Tweets or updates from other members. These updates may include daily updates on activities, but questions are commonly asked. Does someone on your follow list complain about the long drive to work? If you run a work-at-home website, respond with an @reply. Your message could say “Yes, I remember those days. I am glad I now work from home. Did you know that you could too?” and provide a link.

In addition to responding to @replies from those you follow, visit Search.Twitter.com. Messages that are public will be displayed. In keeping with working from home, use targeted keywords, such as work from home, employment, and online jobs. Remember, be sure to include a personal message, but always include a link to your website. In addition to just answering a question, become a follower of the other member.

As for why you should cleverly market your website, it has to do with personalization. In the above mentioned example, you provided a link to your website, but you also provided a personal message. This shows that you are truly reading Tweets and not using Twitter for the sole purpose of advertising. When consumers feel used, they are likely to turn away. If you notice your followers on Twitter decreasing in numbers, it may be because your messages sound like spam.

In short, Twitter has the potential to be an amazing internet marketing tool, but use it wisely. Including a quick personal message with @replies and cleverly incorporating your website link into your Tweets is the perfect way to advertise your website, as it is an advertisement in disguise.

At the time of writing this article, I am pretty much a complete Twitter novice. I have about 3 followers, and I’ve made 3 introductory Tweets. However, I am not a complete internet marketing novice, and I can see the potential Twitter has to help build my business.

But in order to build a business, don’t you need a lot of followers? And from what I can make out, getting Twitter followers is a time consuming business. You basically have 3 options.

Option 1 – Broadcast your Twitter page to your public following. This is why celebs and internet ‘gurus’ can rack up a massive number of followers in a short period of time. They basically tell the world, “Hey, I’ve got a Twitter page, check it out”. And because they have such a large public following, they can put together a massive number of followers on Twitter easily. I don’t have this luxury.

Option 2 – Spend a couple of ours making tweets (tweeting) every day. If you are an active tweeter (twitterer? I’m not up on all the Twitter lingo yet!) then it stands to reason that more people will stumble across your page, and eventually you’ll build a following. Unfortunately, I don’t have a couple of spare hour per day to do this.

Option 3 - Manually follow and unfollow twitter users. From what I can gather, every time you follow somebody on Twitter, there is about a 1 in 4 chance that they will follow you back. So you’d need to follow about 4000 people to get your following up to 1000, right? But there are two problems with this.

The first problem is that new Twitter members are only allowed to follow a maximum of 1000 people. Once you get to 1000 followers yourself you can then follow approximately 10% more than are following you. Get it?

The second is that finding and adding people on Twitter is a time consuming process. It’s not a difficult task, but time consuming. Who has hours per day to manually add followers, and then manually remove people that don’t follow you back? I don’t.

This task can be outsourced, but this is a cost you shouldn’t have to bear. Especially if you are trying to build a small business on a relatively tight budget.

This is where Twitter Auto Follow Software comes in. This clever little piece of software will go out and actually find Twitter users for you. And then it will start to follow them too.

To make matters even better, you can actually ask the software to remove all the people you are following that aren’t following you back. This leaves you free to target new twitter followers.

The true beauty of this twitter auto follow software is that it is completely set and forget. That means that you can ask it to help you get more Twitter followers, and then go off and walk the dog, go out for dinner, hit the gym, or my favourite: go to bed!

I’ve seen the potential this software has to save me, and loads of other twitter users, a whole bunch of time when building a massive Twitter following. So that is why I decided to put it to the test in my “The 0 to 1000 Twitter Followers in 5 Days Challenge”.

I’ll be broadcasting it on YouTube over the next couple of days so why not see how I get on. Hopefully I’ll be able to give you lots of great tips as I go.

Security, the hottest thing on the internet. No, you can’t put your passwords into a safe box or keep them with the CIA. When it comes to social networking and connecting your accounts to other accounts, security is able to become compromised. What if that “Get Money for Tweeting!” site stole your information and got your Twitter account? What if that password was the same as your Facebook? Your PayPal? Well, they probably are going to get those too. That is why you need to keep your information safe.

One way to keep your information safe is to keep it secure. Twitter rolled out an update to support OAuth not too long ago; OAuth is a way to never, ever give out your password. When a web application wants to get access to your account, they don’t want your password or your secure information, all they want is just an access token. You don’t even have to login here, or there, or anywhere except Twitter. That way, they don’t have your password, and if they are abusing your account, you can deny access anytime.

Another way to keep your information safe is to always use a virus scanner. Malware, Trojans, and anything can get into your computer; you want to keep them out. They’re like those stalkers that watch your every move; when you enter a password, they jump right on it, and take your account! You don’t want that to happen. You may be thinking Virus Scanners cost lots of money. Actually, they don’t. There are plenty of free scanners, along with online scanners; try AVG or Kaspersky or Avast.

Being safe is a major thing to keep in mind when signing up for web applications, and being secure is what you want to be. Keep your information safe and secure by using only OAuth enabled applications and always using a virus scanner.

Twitter is a great free tool that can transform your approach to fundraising. And in a time of economic uncertainty, a free tool is a welcome help!

Twitter: A Brief Introduction

At its most basic level, Twitter is called “microblogging.” Users are allowed 140 characters to answer the main question on the Twitter home page: “What are you doing now?” When you first start to tweet, it feels really odd. Why would you share what you’re eating? Why would anyone care? It seems like it is only useful for narcissistic people or those trying to waste time. But people do. And the conversations get even better when you start answering a question like “What are you focusing on?”

People use Twitter to ask questions, follow people that are interesting, promote links to various websites, share news stories, to coordinate events during conferences. Forbes reports that people are even using Twitter to provide real-time disaster relief information.

Twitter for Fundraising

From a fundraising perspective, Twitter is an amazing way to engage donors and potential donors. One of the hardest things to do as a fundraiser is to maintain relationships. Twitter allows you to do that…right in the midst of your normal every day routine.

You can meet people all over the world that might be interested in your cause.

You can hear what people are really thinking about a wide variety of issues.

You can follow other fundraisers and get great real-time advice.

You can even promote traffic to your website or those of your friends.

Better still, if you can make your comments effectively understood in 140 characters, think about how all your fundraising writing will improve! You are forced to be succinct and understandable!

Tools like TwitterFeed automatically broadcast your blog posts through your Twitter account. Then your blog posts reach both those subscribed to your RSS feed and those following you on Twitter. And if anyone of them like it, they may “retweet” it, broadcasting to the people that follow them.

Twitter’s Not Just for Broadcasting

Be warned: Twitter is not just a tool to push your message out. The September 2008 BusinessWeek special report had a warning from H&R Block’s experience: Amy Worley, who manages [H&R] Block’s Twitter program, had to alter her approach. “I went in thinking Twitter was a free way to push our message out,” she says. “Big mistake. We learned to listen. We started winning once we let people decide on their own about our services.”

For people using Twitter, is has to be a two-way conversation. That is the genius of Twitter: you can form your very own “listening post” and hear what others are saying about the issues that affect your mission. This can help you generate ideas and tell your story better.

What About Fundraising with Twitter

Listening is one thing, but can Twitter really be used for fundraising?

Social media expert, Beth Kanter writes that people will not make a gift just because you tweet. Neither will they give because you start a blog or create a cause on. But, she points to a blog post by Avi Kaplan reporting that a Twitter idea called “Tweetsgiving” raised over $11,000 in just 48 hours!

Kaplan himself gives some great measurements on how “Tweetsgiving” spread around the world. What would it cost your organization to get over 100 press and blogger mentions in over 100 countries using traditional media? On Twitter, it was free.

But NTEN (the Nonprofit Technology Network) reminds us that Twitter isn’t the point. Relationships are the point. Relationships have always been the point. The most basic of fundraising secrets is that “people give to people.” Twitter is simply one more tool to help people connect with each other. Can your nonprofit afford not to explore all the tools available?

Jump In, the Twitter Stream’s Warm!

Why not test it out? Setting up an account is easy and free. Twitter’s more interesting if you start following people right away. Nonprofit blogger Mark Hayward (@mark_hayward on Twitter) has a list of 97-yes, 97!-people he suggests following on Twitter. Check them out and follow the people that interest you. It’s ok. You’re not being invasive or nosey. You are supposed to follow people.

Other ways to find people that work in your field are tools like Search.Twitter.com or Twellow. Search “fundraising” or “nonprofit” or whatever else you’re interested in. Whatever your cause is, you can search on to see who is talking about your cause. Simply follow those you find interesting and join in the conversation that’s already going on. At first, you’ll probably want to just listen. It’s amazing how just listening will help you tell your nonprofit’s story.

It’s as Simple as Having a Conversation

Do not let all the tools confuse you. Twitter is as simple as having a conversation. Like anything else, it’s odd to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is fun. You may raise money because of your tweets, but more importantly, you will learn a lot about the people that choose to support your cause and other causes. And that will help you get more effective at your nonprofit storytelling. What do you have to lose?

The internet has undoubtedly become known as one of the most resourceful ways to reach the public and email is considered a very powerful tool in online marketing. There are many benefits for small businesses and entrepreneurs to implement an email marketing campaign. However, like any other marketing strategy, email marketing can result in amazing profits and business growth when carried out properly or horrible losses if carried out haphazardly. The following are email marketing tips that will help you build a successful email marketing campaign.

Get Personal
As popular as email has become, unfortunately spam has become just as popular. Just about everyone gets spam delivered to their inbox and thus many are quick to delete anything that even resembles an ad or appears generic in nature. In an effort to dodge your recipient’s delete button, and get your emails open, it is important to use the most beautiful & appealing words to your reader’s ears or eyes, their name! Addressing your prospect by name and customizing the emails creates a personal setting where they’re more prone to feel important and valued and eager to read on.

But Not Too Personal
How willing would you be to give your name, email address, phone number & street address to someone you just met? My guess is not very willing. Testing has shown that the more personal information you ask for the less likely people are to fill out a form. So what’s the best way to convince the reader/viewer to leave their contact information? Don’t ask them for their name, rank, and serial number. An email is really all you need, but if you want to personalize future email mailings, you’re going to need their name. Make your initial request for contact info at most, a name and email address to ensure a higher opt-in rate.

Be Authentic
As mentioned earlier, people have little tolerance for spam, and they’ll quickly send anything that smells of crap into the trash. Forget the hype, misleading subject lines, and over usage of exclamation points & capitalization. Provide good quality information and resources and keep the subject lines on topic. Create an email campaign that will form deeper relationships, gain trust and establish your credibility. Don’t give your recipients any reason to be suspicious of your intentions.

Respect Their Privacy! Respect Their Space!
We all see the small print below the request for contact information that promises not to sell, trade, rent, or share the information provided – plain and simple, keep your promise! Respect their privacy! Along the same lines, be considerate of when you’re sending the bulk of your emails. The fact that people are usually a lot busier around the holidays translates into less time for trivial things, so expect email open rates to be lower and limit your email marketing during these times.

Have a Clear Call To Action
Getting an email opened and read is only half the battle, the real victory dance celebration begins when your reader follows through on the desired call to action of the email. Whether it’s to click a link, purchase of a product, or filling out a survey, the reader must clearly understand what you want them to do after reading the email.

Check Your Links
As simple as this sounds, there are way too many email marketing campaigns that take the set and forget benefits of an autoresponder literally. They write the email series, schedule it to be delivered, and then forget it. To avoid embarrassment and possibly even worse, an unsubscribe and lost prospect/customer, make it a regular habit and frequent routine to check any links included in your email series.

Create Brand Awareness
A long term benefit of email marketing is to develop brand name recognition. Ideally, it would be in your best interest to have your customers be able to easily identify and remember your brand. Assuming your customers are satisfied with the first transaction, referrals and loyalty are just a conversation away as long as your brand has become familiar and to them.

Now for any of these email marketing tips to even work, you have to be collecting email addresses. Running a successful email marketing campaign will no doubt take some work and effort, but a well planned strategic email campaign can dramatically increase business growth and profits. To excel with your email marketing, get to know your target market, treat them well, deliver what is promised, and make a lasting impression.

No better time like the present to start implementing an email marketing campaign. For those who are successful in marketing are successful in business. To further ensure your small business marketing success, avoid these 7 Costly Online Marketing Mistakes.

Twitter is one of the internet’s newest social marketing crazes. Twitter is reshaping the way that people think about traditional marketing and is spawning a new generation of web 2.0 marketing gurus. One of the keys to marketing with Twitter is to gain a large targeted following. Learning how to get Twitter followers fast is easy if you have the right resources.

First, here are some Twitter Following Limits You Should Know.

There are some Twitter following limits you should be aware of. Twitter limits the number of people that you can follow in an attempt to reduce the spamming activity that is prevalent on Twitter. Currently I have over 3000 followers but have hit some limits along the way. Once you reach 500 followers Twitter will put a hold on your following activities and will make your followers catch up to the 500 mark. Once you catch up and now have 500 followers per 500 people that you follow, you will now have the 10% rule applied. The 10% rule will only allow you to follow 10% more people than are currently following you. You have to build your account by these rules but there are some strategies to lessen the time that it would naturally take for your followers to grow.

How to get Twitter Followers Fast – Getting Targeted Followers

Targeted followers are the key with Twitter marketing. The more people that you have on your Twitter account that are interested in the products or services that you are marketing, the more success you will have. One of the best ways to do this is to search for people that are Tweeting about the Niche that you are in. Once you find a handful of people that are tweeting about your topics, check out their bios to see if they are in your niche. If they are, look at their followers and simply follow all of those people. A lot of people now have auto followers that will automatically follow you back but to really get Twitter followers fast you will have to unfollow the people that do not follow you back. I usually give them about 3 days to follow and then I will unfollow them using a free website called Twitter Karma. Just Google it and you will find it. Regularly doing this will allow you to keep adding followers with out stalling out by the 10% rule.

How to Get Twitter Followers Fast – Marketing

There are a lot of facets to learning how to market effectively on Twitter and there is still a lot of research taking place to find the best methods. The main Cardinal rule is that you should not spam people with an endless amount of Affiliate links. Instead spend some time retweeting interesting tweets an using the @ reply feature to start conversations.

One of the best resources that I have found to date is The Tweet Tank. The Tweet Tank not only shows you many more tricks on how to get Twitter Followers fast, it also shows you how to effectively market to them on complete auto pilot. This program will show you how to gain 20,000 followers in about 90 days and will make you a good income in the process. One of the things that I love about this program is that it is easy enough for the total newbie to jump aboard an make money but it also teaches the advanced marketer some tricks that are not publicly on the web. In my experience I was able to make my money back with this system in less then a week. ( I got a sale at about the 500 follower mark) It is ridiculously cheap and worth every dime. The Tweet Tank.

A brand spanking new Twitter guide was recently released, but this one was with a difference. Its a completely humorous look into the world of Twitter but with a serious goal, its goal is to help you get into one of the most popular sites on the web, then benefit from using it on a daily basis.

Millions and millions of people are using Twitter. From people in their 90s to children below five, their was even a recent news story about a couple that used a sensor hooked up to a pregnant mums baby bump, which would then send out a live tweet to family members every time the unborn child moved. Companies like Com-cast, Dell and Jet Blue all use Twitter, and even more celebrities are joining the hoard of Twitter users on a daily basis, even Mr. MC Hammer has a Twitter account! “You can’t tweet this”.

But so many people are using Twitter without realizing just how powerful it is, its so much more than just a message service, using it just this way is like sending smoke signals when you have a cell phone. So a Twitter guide for business and personal use was needed, the author believes that by teaching businesses and people how to use it right, they can maximize the potential it can bring. Its also true that a single Twitter marketer made over $4000 from just one message.

Its time to expand your businesses potential by taking it in a new direction, follow in the steps of Dell and Jet-Blue by creating yourself a Twitter page, and getting out into twitter world while maximizing your possibilities of find new customers. And now there is finally a guide to teach you how.

Before this guide you may have had less followers than an elephant with gas, but now with this release you get to follow easy steps to skyrocket your companies profile, and all in a extremely light hearted way. If you do not laugh while you learn, then whats the point? Its time for a Twitter revolution, its time you made a stand.
